This week, UFCW Local 400 takes to the literal streets with a fleet of traveling billboards to generate support for the 17,000 DC, MD and VA grocery workers who are organizing for a fair contract by March 31. Standing shoulder-to-shoulder on the billboards are dozens of Local 400 ACT! members who are providing leadership for the most aggresive contract campaign in our history. When you see them in your neighborhood or at one of the more than 200 Safeway and Giant stores in our area, honk your horn and give a thumbs up to your friends and neighbors–the people who make sure you get fresh food and good service every day of the week. Also, if you see one of the billboards driving past, please take a picture and email it to us at occupygiantandsafeway@gmail.com so that we can share them!
Updated 6:19 PM: Since our post earlier today we’ve been spending some time going around with mobile billboards to visit our customers in their neighborhoods and we’ve even carried our message directly to the stores.
Here we are at a Giant store early this afternoon:

I was driving down washington blvd when I saw a occupy giant and safeway mobile billboard. I think its wonderful that we can come together in the world and work to make a positive difference.
We’re glad you saw us out and about! Thanks for the encouraging words–we agree with you totally. Glad to know we can count on your support!
