We’ve told you about Steve’s pay in previous posts on our Facebook page as well as here on the blog but we’ve got some new information to share with you.
Did you know that in addition to his payoff that he received last year (11 million), he also receives a stipend for being the Director that leads the board for the Kohl’s Corporation? That’s right, Burd received $239,979 in compensation last year and he’s been receiving anywhere from $130,000-$230,000 since 2006 to for his role as the Director of the Board. His compensation from Kohl’s alone could purchase a modest house in some places.
He also dropped from 318st on the Forbes Executive Pay list in 2010 to 418th in 2011. We’re sorry Steve that you fell a few spots, although it’s not because you were paid any less. Clearly there were just more people that had their pockets lined better in 2011 than it seems than you did. After all, you still rank 2nd in CEO compensation amongst your peers in the retail food industry. We just hope you’re saving some of the $80.33 million in total compensation that you’ve received in the last five years for a rainy day.
There’s a huge difference from the total compensation that’s doled out at the top and what we see on our level. Perhaps we understand a little better now why our store managers are telling us that they can’t afford to give us hours in the stores…the money is all being spent at the top of the organization. It still doesn’t make it right though.
If you stand with us as we fight to improve our lives, please visit your local Safeway and tell your store manager, “I support Safeway workers in their fight for a fair contract.” See our previous post about this action and for more details about how you can get involved.
We’ll have more to follow on this soon but for now, read more about Burd’s compensation yourself at Forbes 2011 list of Executive Compensation and Forbes General Profile on his total compensation.
